As a college preparatory high school, Barkai’s unparalleled commitment to providing students with 21st century skills begins the minute they join our family. Our college guidance program, tailored to nurture students’ strengths and interests, engages them from the outset with a personalized and curated road map for success. Classes from AP Biology to Halakhah and clubs from Model UN to Torah Bowl have an individualized focal point, asking the essential question: who are you and whom do you hope to become? The college guidance department works together with the administration to provide exposure to professionals in a variety of fields, internships throughout the community and beyond, and a myriad of extracurricular opportunities.

 

Once students enter eleventh grade, our focus shifts to their unique post−high school plans. Students meet one−on−one with the seasoned Director of College Guidance to craft a post high school plan targeting their distinctive objectives in anticipation of this all important penultimate year of high school. Having a dynamic understanding of our students’ visions for themselves, we invite admissions representatives from colleges, universities, yeshivot and seminaries to visit Barkai and create connections with our school. We also visit college campuses, which brings the theoretical distinctions to life: city versus suburban campus, large lecture halls versus intimate classrooms, public versus private. By the end of junior year, students have resumes, personal essays, and a wishlist of post high school choices, and they are prepared to apply to the colleges of their choice in the fall of senior year.
